Happy CNY! 恭喜恭喜!

day 2 of CNY, and i am at home...
spoiling myself with a packet of cold green tea
(which i am going to pay a price for later...)

and occasional bites of kueh bangkit.
it's CNY, and if i am going to cough blood out, i don't care.

i want my GOODIES!

so far, i've managed to curb the temptation to open the bah kwa bottle...
though i admit i sneaked 2 prawn rolls into my mouth last night..
it's such a torture to see all these goodies,
and my FAVOURITE goodies...
right in front of me..

argh!

CNY day one went fairly smoothly despite my coughing fits...

i so do not look like that now : (

though i am feeling so drained now..
sigh...

only time of the year there will be so many pairs of shoes outside my door

then again, day one is usually the more 'exciting' day

mahjong is a must during CNY in my family :D

when relatives whom i haven't seen for 1 year

mahjong addicts play anywhere, even on an oval-shaped table

gets together in 1 place and ask the typical questions.

who said mahjong is a game for 4 only? :P

a common conversation...

concerned relative (CR): Happy new year! *reaches hand ou
me (M): Happy new year! *shakes hand, plaster on smile*
CR:Are you still at (insert wrong hospital name)?
M: i'm at TTSH *continues plastered smile*
CR: oh yah oh yah *smiles* busy or not/tiring or not/how long you worked there for already?
M: ok lah/physically tiring/2 years *plastered smile starting to crack*
CR: wah! so fast hor! all of you grown up liaoz *laughs*
M:....... *repairing cracks in plastered smile*
CR: eh, you are a ......something-pist or doctor huh?
M: physiotherapist
CR: ooohhhh......*smiles uncertainly*..what do you do?
M: exercises, make patients move so they don't become weaker from lying in bed
CR: ooooooohhh....*awkward silence*..........eh, have you tried the bahkwa/prawnrolls/pineapple tarts....? very nice leh *walks away to get food*
M: *breathes deeply and sigh*

imagine that conversation in english, mandarin, hokkien and combination of all three languages *trembles in fear*

oh, another conversation with the more elderly/senior relative

Gretel (G): 新年快乐!
senior relative (SR): 诗音啊!新年快乐!! 哇!这么大了!! *grabs onto my arm, looks intently at my face* 越来越美了嘞!
G: *smiles awkwardly* 没有啦,一样啦。
SR: 有!有!有“朋友”吗? (SR tends to refer 'boyfriend' as 朋友)
G: *continues awkward smile* 没有嘞....
SR: 哎哟, 这么美,很容易找的啦。
G: ........ 随缘啦. (mumble beneath breath: you said the same thing last year...)
SR: 你哥哥嘞?要结婚了没有? *turns around to look for my bro*
G: *quickly walks away*

so, can you blame me for not looking forward to the 拜年 part of CNY?
previously, i used to love to 拜年.
got food, got ang pow, got other cousins to play with.
what's not to like?

but now...
the questions are enough to tempt me to stay home and watch tv/youtube
even getting angpows is being frowned upon by mummy dearest...
she feels that i am too old to get angpows -_-

and this year, i don't even have the FOOD to look forward to...
*bleah*

the "Guay" family reunion

but i am enjoying the break from work..
to be able to wake up to a bright blue sky, not pre-dawn darkness...
and to be able to sit here and just be myself...
in my PJS, listening to YES933 and not have to worry about meeting stats

life is good...in a way...

looking forward to taiwan next sat
NEXT SAT!!??
goodness...
only got one more week to get stuff ready...

*yawn* *stretch*
ahhh..
back to youtube...
and maybe.....just a couple more sneaked kueh bangkit :D
